Goal

Redesign the information architecture for the mega menu to provide easier, clearer navigation to the users

My Redesign Process

a) Analyzing Website Characters

1) Enormous amount of items: the website contains thousands of items in many kinds

2) Simplified menu to categorize: it only uses 5 categories in mega menu to categorize all items

3) 3 tiers in the mega menu: The website uses 3 tiers of menu to help users to navigate

b) Finding Issues of the Website

1) Low Findability:

    a) Things under wrong categorization: for example, bag items are under the menu of "Clothes & Shoes"

    b) Things are mixed together: for example, women clothing includes all types: shirts, pants, skirts...

    c) Heavy work load: even on the third tier of mega menu, it is still a heavy workload for users to read the category list to find what type of things they want

2) Low Learnability:  there are 3 ways of categorization in the site: top bar of mega menu, side bar drop down menu, and cards of categorization

c) Setting Design Strategy

1) Keep the characters: keep the neat webpage with 5 first tier categories in the menu bar

2) Increase the findability of website and decrease the workload of reading:

     a) Reorganize the 5 categories of the mega menu

     b) Adding one more layer with color and chunk

     b) Grouping similar types for users to make it easier for users to find

Things I Could Do Better Next Time:

I should do usability test with some participants and more iteration to make the menu more user friendly
