Trip Advisor: To Ease Decision-Making Process for Travellers

Goal

Reduce the stress and effort for travelers by providing options based on their intents so they can make informed decisions and enjoy travel and have fun.

By leveraging Tripadvisor’s resources to create a recommendation system that acknowledges different travel intents and provides more informed results.

Provide “smart” recommendations to make travel planning convenient and fun by assisting in intelligent decision making. 

Process Overview

  • Conduct user research to understand their group travel experience 

  • Create persona and scenarios

  • Ideate and design prototypes

  • Test and collect feedback from users, professor and sponsor

  • Frequent meetings with team to analyze feedback and iterate prototypes 

  • Present final prototype and presentation with class and sponsor

Feature and Prototype Iteration Along the Way

Based on the feedback from TripAdvisor as well as the participants, the prototypes and features were created and iterated.

​

  1. We initially started by focusing on a decision making tool to help group travelers make decision in an in destination setting.
     

  2. After getting feedback and testing our the prototype, we found that users are less likely to spend time using such a tool especially on the go. They are looking for something fast and something personalized to them.
     

  3. Instead of adding more to what Tripadvisor’s platform already offers,  we decided to leverage what they already have and bring it one step closer to the user. By easing the access of information and tailoring it to the needs of the user, this solution can potentially improve their customer experience.
